Grow Your Own Tomatoes

By Peter Turner Introduction Tomatoes are sub-tropical plants originating in South America and hence are partial to fairly hot dry conditions. However, many varieties, particular bush varieties, are now suitable for growing outdoors in the UK although you will need to protect them from frosts in mid to late spring. If you have a greenhouse then this is the place to grow your tomatoes they will be protected from frosts during the early growing season and from damaging winds throughout their lives. You will also be able to regulate the amount of water and food they are given more easily than if growing them outdoors. Selecting Plants The easiest way to get started is to buy young plants you should look for compact, sturdy looking plants which should be dark green in colour with no yellowing of the leaves at all. Reject any leggy plants, i.e. tall plants with long stems and relatively few leaves as these plants have had insufficient light during their early growing phase. Also look for pots with moist compost as young plants which have been allowed to dry out will be under stress and less likely to produce good quality crops. See the end of this article for growing from seed. Location Greenhouse grown tomatoes can either be grown direct in the ground if your greenhouse has a border or in pots (or possibly grow bags). Growing directly in the ground will probably produce the best results initially mainly due to the larger soil mass-producing more constant conditions for the roots (temperature and moisture). However, perfectly good results can be had by growing in pots and there are advantages to pot growing, principally that the compost can easily be changed each year to prevent the build up of disease organisms and to provide a known balance of nutrition. Tomato plants will grow outdoors in almost any soil conditions I have experienced success in hard compacted clay soils as well as peat based bought composts. However, a good water retentive soil, rich in organic matter, will produce the best results for the least effort. If growing outdoors, choose a bush variety and plant in a sheltered, preferably south facing, position. Planting and Care When planting your tomatoes into their final growing position water the area well before planting and put the plant slightly lower in the ground than it was in the pot. If growing a bush variety then support is not strictly necessary although if it is outside and exposed to any sort of winds then it is probably best to provide some support to avoid disappointment. Cordon varieties with a single tall vertical stem will always need a cane or stake for support and will need to be tied into the stake as it grows. After that it is just a case of watering the plants to maintain a moist (but not permanently wet) compost and feeding regularly with a tomato fertiliser. Avoid high nitrogen based fertilisers as this will result in a very healthy, leafy plant but not much fruit. Cordon varieties will need side shoots removing throughout the growing season to limit the amount of energy the plant spends on producing leaves and encourage the production of fruit. Towards the end of the growing season (late July or August) the plants will be as tall as you want them to be and hopefully have six or seven good fruit trusses. At this point the growing tip can be pinched out to encourage the ripening of the fruit. Remove any brown leaves immediately and dispose of them. Ventilation and Temperature Control Although tomatoes enjoy hot conditions they can get too much of a good thing! The best method of ventilation in the greenhouse is an automatic opening roof vent if you havent got one it would make a good birthday present. Failing that take note of any particularly hot days and make sure you open up the windows and/or doors in the morning and close down again at night. Damping down at the end of a hot day will be much appreciated by your tomatoes just spray the greenhouse floor and windows with water (and the plants) to cool everything down and create a nice humid atmosphere. Harvesting The best bit make sure you get the first fully ripened tomato and eat it straight from the plant while it is still warm and taste that incomparable flavour of summer. After that if you have done your job correctly there will be more tomatoes than you can sensibly eat and your family, friends and neighbours will appreciate your glut of home grown fruit as much as you do. Tomato Pests and Diseases Whitefly Whitefly are the most likely pest to affect your tomatoes. Adult flies look like tiny moths and lay eggs on the underside of leaves; the growing larvae feed on the leaves, leaving a sticky secretion which in turn can attract other diseases. As soon as you see any eggs, try spraying with water to wash them off and remove others by hand as comprehensively as possible. If the infestation looks like getting out of control, there is no alternative to spraying with an insecticide otherwise your entire crop will be ruined. Red Spider Mite These are normally only a problem in dry times. The mites are not visible but their presence is indicated when the leaves become mottled and yellowing. There is a really simple solution: spray the plants with a fine mist of water as often as possible - red spider mites hate moist conditions. Aphids You dont want to use chemicals if you can possibly help it so if the greenfly start to move in there is only one solution squash them between your finger and thumb! Foot and Root Rot Foot and Root Rot in tomatoes is often caused by irregular watering, the base and roots of the tomato plant begin to rot causing the leaves to discolour and the tomato plant may eventually collapse. The key is regular watering to keep the compost MOIST BUT NOT PERMANENTLY WET. Growing From Seed The beauty of growing from seed is the vast array of varieties you can choose from, unlike the local garden centre where you will be lucky to find more than four varieties on offer. Having decided which variety or varieties to grow, getting started is really simple you sow the seeds in a pot and in about eight weeks you will have small plants which will be large enough to plant out. By mid-summer the first naturally sun-ripened fruits will be ready to harvest and the treat will begin and continue throughout the summer. Start your tomatoes off by sowing seeds in pots something like 8 weeks before you expect the final frosts of the year so you will need to think about sowing between mid February and early April depending on where you live. Leave them to germinate on a windowsill or in a propagator somewhere that is warm and frost-free and with absolutely as much light as possible. How to sow: fill several 7.5cm (3in) pots with seed compost, lightly firm the surface and water. Put a single seed in the centre of each pot tomato seeds are very good germinators and you will almost certainly have 100% of the seeds you plant germinate. Cover with a small amount of compost and clearly label the pot - keep the compost moist but not wet. Growing on: when the roots start to come through the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot, transfer the plant into a 12.5cm (5in) pot, taking care not to damage the roots, and water in well. If the plant is getting tall, tie it to a small cane for support. If planting outside harden off the plants by placing them outdoors during the day for a few days. If you are going to grow them in a greenhouse then the plants will be big enough to be transplanted to their final growing position approximately eight weeks after germination. If the young plants have been raised on a windowsill in the house they may be a bit taller and thinner than is ideal due to lack of good light. In this case do not be afraid to plant the young plants deeper in their final growing position than they were in the pots this will help support the plant and new roots will form on the buried stems. Keep an eye out for late frosts and put a little heat in the greenhouse if necessary. All About the Bonsai Tree

By Fred Snow When people think of the bonsai tree, they usually think of China and Japan first. While these two countries are most famous for growing and training bonsai, the growing of miniature trees can be traced as far back as ancient Egypt. It’s believed that the growing of miniature trees was pioneered by healers as a way to easily transport trees with healing powers for medicinal purposes. However, it soon evolved into an art form and pastime for the wealthy. The bonsai is not a genetically modified plant or a hybrid tree. Many different trees found in nature can be made into bonsai, and master growers are always looking for new specimens. The bonsai tree is kept miniature by pruning its roots and keeping it in a small pot. The size of the tree is just one aspect of the bonsai. It’s shape and style is the real way to tell the difference between a bonsai and just a small potted tree. The bonsai’s trunk and branches are shaped sometimes over many years to get the perfect style. Although you can find lots of different types of bonsai trees, the Juniper in windswept style is probably the most popular. This is where the tree looks like its blowing in the wind. The limbs spread out from the trunk in one direction as opposed to being symmetrical. You’ll also see bonsai in the cascade style, where one branch flows down below the pot. Again, the trees don’t grow that way by accident. It takes years of patient training and pruning, to achieve the shape. Many connoisseurs of the bonsai aren’t content with a single tree. You might see a group of bonsai trees growing in a single pot. This is called the forest style of display. But it doesn’t stop there. Many growers take great pride in designing intricate miniature landscapes with their trees. It could be an indoor display or even a much larger outdoor display in a garden. However a bonsai is displayed, it requires a great deal of care to keep your tree healthy and properly groomed. If you own a bonsai, you know how hard they are to care for. They need just the right amount of water. A little too much or too little could be fatal. Your best bet is to use a moisture meter when watering. You also need to repot your tree periodically. This is a great time to inspect and prune your trees root system. One thing that kills bonsai faster than anything else is getting root bound. You need to care for your tree above ground and below. If you don’t already have a bonsai tree, but want one, my best advice is to find a nursery specializing in bonsai. This can be hard to do, but take to the Internet, and look for one around your area. There you’ll be able to talk to a bonsai master who can give you plenty of advice on caring for your tree. He can also help you select the tree that’s right for you and the amount of time you have to devote to caring for it. Its good to develop a relationship with a bonsai master just like you would with a car mechanic if you want your tree to last for years to come. Interviewing Skills Every Manager Should Have

By Manik Thapar Introduction: Whether it a major part of your job or a one off task, interviewing candidates to fill positions can be complex, time-consuming process that requires careful consideration and planning. This section will help you device a strategy to eliminate many of the problems involved in interviewing , enabling you to recruit the best candidate every time. Clear information helps you to take effective action at each stage of the process, form the initial definition of job requirements, to the decision about how to recruit, to the conduct of individual interviews. Commonsense advice enables you to evaluate the suitability of an applicant and implement a follow up procedure. This section includes concise tips providing further essential information at a glance. A self-assessment exercise that lets you chart and evaluate your improvement with each interview you hold is available upon request. Please contact us if you would like this self assessment exercise. This month we will discuss: 1) Preparing For An Interview The sub topic that we will cover under this section will be: A) Identifying Objectives Preparing for an interview A job interview rarely lasts longer than an hour, but is consequences might last for years. In order to identify the most suitable candidate for a vacancy, prepare well in advance. 1) Identifying Objectives An interview is a formal method of exchanging information between people. The interviewer needs to be clear about the purpose of the exchange to ensure that the time is used to give and obtain information that is relevant and revealing. A) Defining The Purpose The recruitment of new employees is one of the most important tasks a manager will undertake. Meeting candidates face to face provides the best opportunity for gathering information about their skills and experience and, ultimately, matching the right person to the job and to the organization. In Preparing for interviews, remember that your purpose is not only to evaluate the candidate, but also to describe the job accurately so that they can assess whether it is the right one for them. You will also need to represent your organization in the best light possible to attract good quality candidates. Note: Evaluate every vacancy before calling for interviews Look for new blood rather than one of us Imagine the ideal candidate for a vacant job. B) Assessing A Vacancy Before any employer can set out to find a suitable candidate for a job, it is important that they establish the skills and experience the job requires. Start by referring to the existing job description. Consider whether the job has changed over time, with the introduction of new technology, for instance. Does it now require different skills? Ask questions about the previous employee to decide if there is anything new that can be bought to the job. Were they suited to the job? Is a similar mix abilities required in a new employee? Note: Review all job descriptions for your team when a vacancy is created. C) Assessing Job Relationships An interviewer needs to assess how a job will relate to the roles of other employees. Where does it fit into the organizational hierarchy, and what will the role of the new job be within the existing team or department? To whom will the new employee report, and who will report to the new employee? Bear in mind that there is usually room for some flexibility within an organizational structure. Consider, for instance, whether using new technology would allow a more junior employee than previously to be appointed to take the responsibility of a job. Gathering Information Discuss the requirements of a job with the present job-holder and those who work in the same team or department. This may lead to a reallocation of responsibilities among all roles, and a reappraisal of the skills needed in a new employee. The interviewer obtains valuable information about the job from all those who work closely with the job-holder. D) Evaluating A role A new vacancy provides you with an opportunity to look closely at a job to evaluate its role within the company. Set aside time to identify specific changes that can be made to improve the jobs value to the organization. Start with the aims of the company. Have there been any directional changes in its goals, and has the job adapted to meet them? Ask other departments what their expectations of the job have been and whether these have been fulfilled. Consider the assumptions you have about the knowledge and skills you think the job needs. Can you introduce useful new knowledge or skills into the company through the new appointment? Think also about the communication skills that are needed to make the job effective: are closer relationships with clients or other departments needed? Redefining A Role This case study looks at the way in which the role of librarian has been affected by information technology. Although the role was performed competently by the previous job-holder, a new applicant with updated skills shows how the scope of the job can be extended and improved to the benefit of the organization. If You would like a case on this material please subscribe by clicking on the Contact Us link on the menu. Considering Conditions When a job is vacated, consider whether you need to fill the job in the same way. If part of a job has become redundant, due to change in structure, for instance, consider appointing a part-time replacement. Use a job-sharing scheme in the role needs different skills, or to retain an employee who wants to work part time. If the work occurs only at care taking periods, use freelancers or contract workers. Look at your finances: can one expensive employee be replaced by two junior, or vice versa? The Truth About Weight Loss Products!

By Nitin Chhoda Let’s take a look at the ‘big picture’ in the world of fitness and weight loss products and use a little common sense. You’ll see there’s something wrong with the picture in each case. 1. There are more fat-free/low fat foods, health clubs, diet centers, exercise equipment options, and “miracle drugs” than ever. With several options available, you’d think that obesity would be all but obliterated as an epidemic problem. Why is it, then, with the continually increasing fitness options, the problem of obesity is at an all time high, and going HIGHER??? More gyms, diet centers, equipment, diets, etc., and we’re getting FATTER??? 2. Millions of dollars are spent on research to stimulate “fat gene” without any significant outcome. Many studies of fat loss products “seem to suggest,” “may indicate,” and “may contribute” to fat loss. This sounds pretty indecisive. Scientists are trying to find a fail-proof way for us to bodies to melt off fat without exercise or eating well, while it seems as though they’re forgetting that Americans are consuming over 150 lb. of sugar PER PERSON per year! While the search for the fat gene continues, Americans are causing their bodies to hold on to their fat stores. This is due to the hormonal changes that sugar brings about, namely insulin. Each one of us has the ability to improve our fat-burning abilities if we just get a grip on our ineffective nutritional habits and start feeding our bodies in a supportive way. The truth is, it’s easier and cheaper to buy ’sugar laden’ foods than ever before. 3. Not enough emphasis on bone-building, metabolism-boosting, body shaping, lean muscle mass. In their 20’s - 30’s, American women lose somewhere between 5-10 lb. of muscle. Plus, the average woman’s fat accumulation ranges between 15-30 lb. As a man enters the senior years, he often has less than 70% of the muscle he had at 25. Despite OVERWHELMING evidence to support that weight training (at ANY age) can stop and even reverse this deterioration, most Americans who begin an exercise program choose more aerobic activity and neglect the muscle-saving, metabolism boosting, fatigue-fighting strength training. Excessive aerobic exercise can actually waste away muscle. 4. Over-promising and under-delivering. Many of the claims made on these cleverly calculated fitness gadget infomercials are not only misleading, but they are often not even possible with the equipment being marketed. It is simply not possible to exercise 4 minutes a day to get the body you want. 5. If something is sold in a health food store, shouldn’t it be healthy? Some over-the-counter “fat burners” are actually addictive drugs that, if misused and abused, can lead to seizures, stroke, and death. 6. Some programs still advocate dramatically restricting calories. Consistently reducing calories to an intake below the body’s basal metabolic rate can slow the metabolism and bring about chemical changes that lead to additional storage of fat. Training the body to process food frequently is a factor in speeding the metabolism. Americans, by cutting back on calories, are sabotaging their potential for ever becoming lean. You’ll be amazed at how much you really can eat, and still get lean - permanently. Tips On Giving The Perfect Wedding Toast

By L Hayes As the wedding reception gets rolling (and drinks start flowing), your wedding guests will begin to loosen up. Often, this is when the wedding toasts begin - a potentially bad combination. When you consider that the celebration is usually 75 percent complete and the alcohol is normally running freely, sometimes the toasts can turn into more of a roast! To avoid a potentially embarrassing situation, it’s best for the bride and groom to identify the loose-lipped guests beforehand and then let the DJ or a band member know who they are in case an intervention is necessary. The key is doing it gracefully. Have the DJ move the toasts on to the next guest with as little disruption as possible if one speaker gets out of hand. The best man is typically the toastmaster and organizes who will give toasts. There is a traditional order for the speakers, but the bride and groom should decide if they want to follow etiquette. Generally, the best man makes the toast to the bride and groom, then the groom toasts the bride and her family, the two fathers toast the couple and finally the bride and groom toast each other. Here are some pointers for delivering the perfect wedding toast: * Make sure that all glasses are full before the speeches begin. * It is appropriate to use champagne, wine, a mixed drink or non-alcoholic punch for toasting, but coffee, tea or water should not be used. * The speaker always stands, but the person receiving the toast remains seated. * When toasting, always raise the glass with your right hand and hold the glass straight from your shoulder. * Try to keep the toast brief and sprinkle it with humor. * End the speech with a statement like “To Rich and Nancy!” that lets guests know what they should repeat. * Clink glasses after the toast has been proposed but before drinking. Finally, you don’t have to give the best wedding toast ever, or be the funniest. If you intend to give a toast, but are having trouble figuring out what to say, speak from the heart. It’s the easiest way to find the perfect words. L Hayes is a wedding professional and owner of Wedding Favors Emporium. Development of Liberal Theology: An Overview (Part 1)

By Saundra L. Washington The modern historical era of liberal theology basically encompass four distinct phases of change. The Enlightenment phase extends from the seventeenth century to approximately the middle or late eighteenth century. It is followed by the Romantic phase which is prominent until the mid-nineteenth century when it fades and then rise in the form of Modernism. The final, or perhaps more appropriately, the present phase of liberalism (often referred to as Neo-liberalism) began to surface during the twentieth century. Even though research indicate liberal thought in actuality antedates the aforementioned phases, for purposes of brevity and clarity, this article shall focus on liberal thought as it developed from the age of the enlightenment to the present. The age of Enlightenment was characterized by the triumph of reason in religion and the evanescence of the doctrine of revelation. Rationalism stressed the a priori ability of human reason to know truth; what could be known could only be known through reason and what could not be known by reason was not truth. Revelation and authority therefore, were not only dismissed as irrelevant but totally unnecessary as well. The chief exponents of rationalism were Descartes, Spinoza and Leibniz. Rationalism gained its first systematic philosophical formulation in the works of Descartes. He applied the mathematical method to human reasoning and argued for a priori ideas and principles. He attempted to prove Gods existence by means of an ontological argument beneath which laid his geometrical method of truth. Mainly, whatever is a certainty (clear and distinct ideas) is truth. Geisler (Christian Apologetics) believed Spinozas rationalism was more geometric than Descartes. He felt Spinoza rationalized the absolute perfect idea of a perfect being. Mans reason is competent only up to a certain point; beyond this point man must recognize his incapacity and total dependence. It should be noted that Spinozas rationalism resulted in pantheistic conclusions. The basis of Leibnizs rationalism was centered on God around the sufficient idea. His approach begins with an examination of scientific findings from experience. He utilizes both ontological and cosmological arguments for the rationalistic explanation of God. Theological rationalism then, asserts the claims of reason against authority or revelation. The fundamental principles of religion are held to be innate or self-evident. During this phase of liberal thought rationalism, orthodoxy suffered some serious secular blows. Rationalists were those who believed in reason with a profound faith. They rebelled vehemently against all authorities outside of mans reason and claimed for reason an autonomy which would enable it to examine all questions without interference. According to Nagler, rationalisms aim was to liberate the energies of human nature by the free and fearless use of reason. It virtually ignored all dogmas and rules that impeded freedom of scientific inquiry and the questioning of all accepted truth. The Bible, tradition, religious institutions and religious hierarchies had to submit to the rationalists reason and experience. There was a basic mistrust of tradition and a philosophical analysis of morality and ethics. The Christian faith was reduced to mere reason with prayers playing a prominent place. It was natural then, that God became an impersonal and somewhat aloof deity. And as Nagler pointed out in The Church in History, rationalism, thinking to explain all life and truth on the basis of pure reason soon degenerated into an intellectual fad. Nevertheless, Enlightenment theology is perceived as the forerunner and ally of liberalism in the struggle against religious intolerance. As we continue our journey, we enter the Romantic period. Romanticism was to the nineteenth century what Rationalism was to the eighteenth. This phase of liberalism development was marked by the discovery of the uniqueness of the individual and of access to its concrete reality through individual experience. In other words, the human individual was regarded as the path-way into the vast infinite reality. Man and experience was valued over and above all other creative forms. Many believe that a great literary and artistic period was the result of Romanticism. It was a religion of culture which in many ways resembled the religion of the historical Greeks. The demand was for an all embracing concept of life. Nagler observed that one of the most important contributions made to theological thought was its conclusion that intellect was not the only road to truth. Spiritual events were considered to be the release of the individual from the bondage of coercion. Or, as Nagler puts it: rationalism was rescued from its dangerdangerous tendencies largely by the work of the great philosopher Immanuel KantKant endeavored to show the limits of pure reason in that it could neither demonstrate not overthrow the objects of belief. The latter, such as God, immortality, and freedom-in fact, all the truths and values of the supersensible world come within the realm of what he called the practical reason. As the emphasis on the worth and dignity of man gradually permeated liberal thought; another great voice rose to champion the cause, W. E. Channing. From my readings, Channing appears to have been a genuine seeker after a rational faith. He believed in miracles and prophecy as evidences of Christianity. He became a spokesman for American Unitarianism. The concept of a co-equal, co-existing trinity was unacceptable to him intellectually. Like Kant, Channing believed very strongly in the moral perfection of God and the autonomy of man. (continued in Part 2) Rev. Saundra L. The Interviewable Resume

By Linda Matias It is rumored that the only word William Shakespeare wrote on his resume was Available. Well probably never know if that is true. But it raises an interesting question. How much information is too much and how much is too little when dealing with resume copy? The resume is a vital piece to any job search. As companies scramble to find the ideal candidate, they use the resume to screen candidates. Done right, a resume builds an instant connection with the reader and helps steer the course of the interview in your favor. If you submit a resume that piques the curiosity of the reader, he or she most likely will ask questions based on the information you provided on the resume as opposed to relying on a pre-packaged questionnaire. Thats how you know you have an interviewable resume, when it assists in shaping the course of the interview. The challenge is, How does one create an interviewable resume, one that isnt boring or sterile? How does one write a resume that motivates the reader to give you a call? Write with the employer in mind Cast aside the belief that the resume is about you because it isnt. Though the resume is your story, the heart of it should focus on the needs of the employer. When developing your resume give thought to the person who will be reading it. What are his or her immediate concerns? How will you be able to solve that persons problems? Though it may be difficult to pin down a companys immediate concerns before an interview, the reality is that organizations recruit candidates for one of the following reasons: they need to replace an unproductive employee, a peak performer was promoted or left, or a new position has been created. A recruiter usually searches for a candidate who will produce certain results, one that is a skilled communicator and has a strong work ethic. If you are able to target your resume toward these key areas, you will, without a doubt, tap into the organizations concerns. Choose your phrases carefully Sentence starters and appropriate use of action words all determine whether the resume is interviewable. Instead of using predictable phrases, think of ways to add punch to your resume. For example, instead of using increased sales by 250%write delivered a 250% increase in sales; instead of using ability to effectivelywrite demonstrated ability to effectively; and instead of using reduced costswrite slashed costs. When your resume doesnt sound like all the others on the recruiters desk, he or she will take notice. You will be remembered when your resume breaks the monotony of the recruiters day. Guaranteed. Have a consistent message Dont try to become all things to all people. If you are a CEO, dont add a statement that indicates that you are willing to be a Business Manager. If you are a Sales Manager, dont indicate that you are willing to take on a position as a Customer Service Representative. Get the picture? Determine what you are selling (and looking for) before you put one word to paper. Determine your major selling points Though you may share the same job title with many other people, your accomplishments and how you carry out your responsibilities are what distinguishes you from all the other qualified candidates. Focus your resume on not only what you did but also how well you did it. By design, what makes you interviewable is how you market your strengths on paper. How to Avoid Car Financing Pitfalls

By Joseph Kenny If you are considering the purchase of your first car or even your next vehicle if youre not a first time car buyer, you may be concerned about the prospect of financing your vehicle. This concern is not totally unfounded. There are numerous pitfalls that can occur when financing a new vehicle, especially if you plan to use dealership financing. In order to avoid running into these problems, and possibly stalling your purchase read the tips below. First, understand exactly how important your credit score is to your auto loan application. Even when working with a dealership loan department, be aware that your credit history will be run and your credit score will have a major impact on your ability to obtain an auto loan as well as the terms you are offered. Ideally, it is best to stay on top of things and get an idea of the condition of your credit history yourself before you even step foot into the dealership. Look to make sure there are no errors on there that could be dragging down your score. If your credit score is not in great condition and it is not due to errors, consider delaying the purchase of a vehicle until you can clean it up by paying down some other debts and improving your bill payment schedule; both of which will help to raise your credit score. Remember, a low credit score can prevent you from getting a better interest rate as well as the loan itself. Many people make a list before they go shopping to ensure they wont spend more than they intended. A similar technique can help to ensure you wont spend more than you can afford while car shopping. Make a list of what youre looking for in a vehicle, the features that are important to you and set a price range you can afford to spend. Keep in mind that you should not plan to spend more than 20% of your monthly income. Take the time to do your research and understand current interest rates as well as the price range for the features you have determined are important to you. This will help you to be better educated and less likely to be taken advantage of when it comes time to discuss terms of the loan. Be aware of your options. Find out whether any rebates or special offers are available for the cars that interest you. Never, ever sign anything unless you have gone over the purchase contract with a fine tooth comb. Far too often, extraneous charges will be tacked on that may not be really necessary. If youre not sure of the reason for a charge, ask before you agree to pay it. Dont allow yourself to be pressured into anything. If you need more time to think, take it. Walk out of the dealership, think about it and make your decision on your own time. Salesmen are excellent at driving up the pressure and creating an inflated sense of time is of the essence but that doesnt mean you have to fall for it. By doing your research ahead of time, knowing what you want and what you can afford to pay for it while maintaining a cool head you will be in a better position to purchase the car you want without running into any pitfalls that could cost you big in the long run. Weight Loss : 7 keys to Success

By Janice Elizabeth Small Successful weight loss is about much more than buying the latest diet and exercise program. You have to have the right mindset to make any weight loss program work. Without the right attitude you will have an uphill battle to succeed - but if you get your head together before you begin, and keep yourself in the right frame of mind throughout your program, you multiply your chances of losing weight successfully. So what is the right attitude to ensure you succeed? Ideally you need all of the following:- 1. Absolute desire You have to want a new slim figure and better health more than that piece of chocolate cake. Work out why you want to lose weight and remind yourself every day (every meal time if necessary) why you are doing this. 2. Willingness to change You have to want to lose weight so much you’re prepared to change your attitudes and your lifestyle little by little until you’re living the life that keeps you slim and healthy forever. 3. Commitment to do this for once and for all Make a firm decision to achieve your target, put it in writing and re-read it every day. Constantly renew your commitment to yourself. 4. Knowledge of yourself No matter what your circumstances, you need to accept that you are responsible for your current weight. Only you can say what passes your lips and what doesn’t. Only you decide how much or how little you move every day. You need to understand the reasons why you put on weight in the first place so that you can undo those habits. You need to know your weak spots and look for the best ways to work around them, knowing what you know about you and your lifestyle. 5. Self-belief You must know in your heart of hearts that you can do this, that you can rely on yourself to follow through your commitment and not let yourself down. Everyone can lose weight, but you must believe it too. 6. Self confidence You need self-confidence to keep your commitments in the face of pressure from others, self-confidence to do new things, to try new forms of exercise, to join a gym or a new class. Surprisingly you also need to have self-confidence to face the world as a slimmer person because you will attract attention and admiring glances that you’re not used to. 7. Determination and perseverance When the going gets difficult the successful just keep going. If you choose the right weight loss program, one that is balanced, and fits your life your level of fitness and circumstances and just keep going with it, you’ll succeed. So don’t give up. The great thing is that you can choose to have these personal qualities and attitudes today, simply by changing the way you speak to yourself, being more positive and acting as if you have these characteristics already. You can choose to change your attitude for weight loss success or you can choose to carry on as you are. It really is up to you (and your mind) to make your weight loss program a success! Secret Marketing Tactic Lets You Sell To Tens Of Thousands Of People Without Buying Advertising

By Ben Settle If you are just starting out in business, and want a simple, free and fast way to get started, then this article will show you how. Check this out: No matter what you sell — whether it’s a product or a service — there is one very simple way that, if you sell something that’s got some real value in it, is almost fool proof. And here it is: Simply barter your product or service to newsletter list owners (who deal in products and services similar to yours) in exchange for them endorsing your product or service to their subscribers a certain amount of times. In other words, if you’re a copywriter for example (and this can apply to anything you do), find a list owner who has a couple thousand people or more, and offer to write some stuff for them for free — in exchange for promoting you, your site, your services to their list. Maybe even multiple times over the course of the year. Or, if you sell some kind of widget, offer to give them a free widget (along with anything else you can add to “sweeten” the deal) in exchange for promoting you or your product to their list. All you have to do is make sure youre offering them a “can’t-refuse” deal. A deal that makes it harder for them to say no than it does for them to say yes. The late (and brilliant) copywriter and marketer Eugene Schwartz used to do a variation of this. He’d write ads for the big mailing houses for “free”…in exchange for access to their mailing list to sell his stuff to.
