Effective Emarketing

By Laura Maddison Effective e-marketing, like all successful marketing, starts with solid planning and clear objectives. Your strategic plan defines the objectives, what your goals are, resources, time and of course budget. It also sets the call to actio the WHY your target audience should react to your message. When you have decided on the medium, segmented your market and have delivered your message you need to evaluate performance. Fortunately e-marketing effectiveness is built to be anlaysed. As with any marketing campaign you will undoubtedly be able to take the findings and look for ways to improve them in your next e-venture. E-marketing covers a wide range of online activities including search engine optimisation, pay-per-click, affiliate schemes, e-newsletters, banners, webinars, blogs, RSS feeds, virals, podcasts and Internet TV. There are many techniques that can be adopted either in-house or by using a specialised agency, the methods below are currently the most popular and fortunately the easiest to adopt. I would recommend that webinars, virals, podcasts and other more complicated media are tackled by the specialists after all the most important thing is brand integrity which can be damaged swiftly through poor e-marketing. Blogging A blog is effectively an online diary. Search engines love them, because they contain fresh content to index. Authors like them because search engines do and the web is all about links, which is why search engines guzzle blogs. A good blog can quickly become your most important online tool! RSS Feeds The little orange RSS button allows your content to be delivered straight to desktops, you can subscribe and unsubscribe anonymously, secure that your info isnt being shared. Blogs, latest news and jobs pages are generally publicised via an RSS feed, a customer may click the RSS button on your blog or site and when new content is added they will be alerted about it via their RSS newsreader. Email Marketing and E-newsletters This is effective for reaching a targeted customer base. Email marketing has become increasingly difficult in recent years, and has its limitations. This is why blogs and RSS feeds are gaining in popularity, however, email marketing is still a viable strategy if used correctly. Developing a good e-newsletter will help to build personal relationships with your current and potential customers. SEO & PPC SEO is time consuming and can be farmed out to an expert. However, if you get used to optimising your webpages with relative keywords and submitting them, then pay-per-click campaigns will make much more sense. You will learn what keywords work and how to get the most out of your online spend. Ultimately the old rules of marketing apply even in the new world of the internet. Find people that want to buy what you sell and tell them about it in a way they want to hear! The medium may be different but the result is the same. Like David Ogivily said In the modern world of business, it is useless to be a creative, original thinker unless you can also sell what you create.
